It Sucks SO MUCH

US mobile service, that is.

With VOIP, netizens are showing big telcos that they can do phone service better and cheaper. Unfortunately, trying to build a DIY wireless communications network is no mean feat for any number of reasons, mostly market-related rather than technical. If I felt like my $40-odd per month was going towards significant infrastructure improvements I probably wouldn’t be dreaming about how to do an end-run around mobile providers. But the reality is that the US seems to be forever playing catch-up to Japan three years ago: they’re already testing 4G services with enough bandwidth to transmit HDTV-quality video while we’ve got.. uh, a big Nokia that can capture video clips that might not take ages to send if you can GPRS in your service area for an exorbitant price?

Call me when I care, and hope the call doesn’t drop.
